A First Course in Hydraulics
نویسنده
چکیده
This course of lectures is an introduction to hydraulics, the traditional name for fluid mechanics in civil and environmental engineering where sensible and convenient approximations to apparentlycomplex situations are made. An attempt is made to obtain physical understanding and insight into the subject by emphasising that we are following a modelling process, where simplicity, insight, and adequacy go hand-in-hand. We hope to include all important physical considerations, and to exclude those that are not important, but with understanding of what is being done. It is hoped that this will provide a basis for further sophistication if necessary in practice – if a problem contains unexpected phenomena, then as much advanced knowledge should be used as is necessary, but this should be brought in with a spirit of scepticism.

Computational Hydraulics
The aim is to give an understanding of the numerical approximation and solution of physical systems, especially in open channel hydraulics, but with more general application in hydraulics and fluid mechanics generally. The marriage of hydraulics and computations has not always been happy, and often unnecessarily complicated methods have been developed and used, when a little more computational ...
متن کاملOpen channel hydraulics
This course of 15 lectures provides an introduction to open channel hydraulics, the generic name for the study of flows in rivers, canals, and sewers, where the distinguishing characteristic is that the surface is unconfined. This means that the location of the surface is also part of the problem, and allows for the existence of waves – generally making things more interesting! At the conclusio...
متن کاملThermal-Hydraulics analysis of pressurized water reactor core by using single heated channel model
Thermal hydraulics of nuclear reactor as a basis of reactor safety has a very important role in reactor design and control. The thermal-hydraulic analysis provides input data to the reactor-physics analysis, whereas the latter gives information about the distribution of heat sources, which is needed to perform the thermal-hydraulic analysis. In this study single heated channel model as a very f...

A number of experiments have been carried out in the current paper to investigate the effect of adding a longitudinal impermeable blade beneath the offshore pipelines on decreasing the scour around them. The main aim of this study was to reduce the hydraulics gradient beneath the pipe so that its magnitude recedes from the critical hydraulics gradient and therefore delays the onset of scour phe...
متن کاملDevelopment of Semi-Tow-Dimensional SDAR Model for Bed Variation Simulation in Alluvial Rivers
In this paper, development of a semi-two- dimensional mathematical model called SDAR is introduced. The model is composed of two principal modules of hydraulics and sediment transport. The newly developed SDAR model has a number of capabilities including determination of sediment transport rate, aggradation - degradation
calculation, longitudinal profile and lateral cross–sectional variation...
